Obe Geia Challenge 2014

Last Friday was the annual Obe Geia Challenge which sees 9 primary schools travel to Palm to compete in the Rugby League Challenge.  Palm has three teams in the event –one from St Michael’s and two from Bwgcolman.
The Obe Geia Challenge was established in 2009 by the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys to bring communities together and promote the importance of inclusion in North Queensland.
Named after former Cowboys player and Palm Island local Obe Geia, the carnival promotes the benefits of sport, fitness and healthy living and grassroots rugby league and also aims to increase positive attitudes and behaviours and reduce truancy.
This year saw Rasmussen win a close hard fought final against Heatley (who have made every final since its inception).  It was easy to see how successful the event was just by looking at all the smiling faces boarding the boat for the ride home.
